Bug in a Box

This art project links grade one math concepts with grade one science unit building things.  Children create a 3D box and using a pop-up technique make a bug that pops out of the box.

Here is a brightly decorated bug in a box

This is a dragonfly in a box.

Here is a top view of completed bug-in-a-box.

Here are the steps to follow to create your own bug in a box.

2. decorate your box with bugs and bright colours

3. Assemble your box, leaving the lid un - glued

4. Cut 2 strips of construction paper 20cm wide and 70 cm long

5. With the construction paper, make a large "L"

6. Glue the two ends of the "L" together

7. Begin folding the construction paper, one colour then the other, continuing to alternate colours until you have a spring.

8. Glue the bottom of the spring into your box

9. Make a small bug out of construction paper

10. Glue the bug on the top of the spring

11. Enjoy your bug-in-a-box
