Bug Paper Maché

    As part of our extended program, we have an opportunity to work with a professional art instructor once a week. She is excellent, and adapts her projects to meet our themes. When I mentioned that we were doing bugs as our next unit, she suggested doing paper maché bugs as a project for the next few sessions.

    The students all had the opportunity to select a bug to create. They were encouraged to select an assortment of bugs. (Probably because when we did this project last year, every single female student selected butterfly!)

Zoila and Michelle began with butterfly forms.

Shania, Cameron, and Darian made dragonflies.

    Over the next several weeks, we added layers of paper maché to our forms.

    On the fourth week, we painted and varnished our new bugs.

Liam went for a racing stripe on his dragonfly.

Ryan and Ruth chose many colors for their creatures.
